Virender Sehwag, a name which bowlers do really fear and more so when he is standing set on the crease. It has happened in the past when Sehwag has got out playing untimely shots in tests and has been overly criticized by everyone around. But since his return in 2008 against Australia in the Perth test match, Sehwag has been a gem of a player.
Surprisingly since his return he has scored more runs than anybody around and furthermore he has played the least number of innings than anybody in the top 5. Sehwag since his return in 2008 has scored 2093 runs in 36 innings and has averaged 59.80 during his run-fest which is quite better than his overall test record. The best part though is his strike rate – 91.71 and keeping no qualifications in amount of runs scored, Sehwag still has the best with Albie Morkel of South Africa following him having a strike of 81.69 which is accounted from just one innings of 58!
Considering more records galore, after Don Bradman, Sehwag is the only other batsman to account 4 250+ scores. Sir Don had 5 in his bank and sir’s record duly looks not far off Sehwag’s reach. Again coming back to the time since his return in 2008, Sehwag has scored the most 200+ scores (3) and most 250+ scores (2) too and all of these innings have been played at a strike rate of more than 100!!!
Nevertheless he missed out on the 300 in the ongoing match at the Brabourne stadia, he has wonders to do. With many critics already suggesting him more dangerous than Sir Viv Richards, if Viru gets a couple of these 293-alike innings in the coming recent future, he will be the batsman who each bowler in the world will surely fear.
Sehwag who has just turned 31 barely a month and a half back, has plenty of test cricket left to play and considering past and present Indian legends, all have played at least till the age of 36-37. If he continues to do so, he will be easily termed as one of most dangerous batsman in the history of the game.
Sehwag is as of now the eight highest run scorer in test cricket
for India. He is not far from being 7th where Mohammad Azharuddin is placed just 50 runs ahead of Viru. Sehwag recently got past 6000 runs in test cricket, in fact, in this game itself. Now lets sit back and enjoy the fascinating Sehwagology and hope for some more fun and consistency in the limited over game!
